Interface Steering Committee
The INTERFACE Steering Committee consists of a chairperson and several members from our business community. This volunteer group guides and discusses new and continuing programs for INTERFACE. They help implement procedures and problem solve when necessary with Brookhaven’s young people in mind. The Interface Steering Committee meets four times per year.
Early networking with schools and other organizations helped us meet our goal of providing for an increase of needy families this year. There was a total of approximately 4 tons of food collected in November. This unusual amount enabled us to go through the month of December as well with providing to hundreds of families and many food pantries.
One goal we had was to add on new businesses. This was accomplished by contacting current businesses to make suggestions on who they felt would benefit from our giving program. Back in May, in anticipation of a weak economy that would increase the number of people looking for help, I wrote some grants to help us through the holidays. All of this early intervention paid off with our results; More than 6,500 people were helped with food, toys or both.
The media helped us get out the information about our program. My goal for the coming year is to educate the community on the other services the INTERFACE Program offers as well as reaching out to other businesses for the purpose of grants, donations and volunteers. The town’s website is one of the tools that can assist us with our goals. I would like to reach as many community members as possible to ensure that we are reaching those residents that have a need for what we offer. These components will ensure the continued success of our program.
