Farmingville, NY – On June 6, nearly 600 residents attended the first annual JobHaven.org Job Fair held at Brookhaven Town Hall. The free event, which was sponsored by the Brookhaven Business Advisory Council (BBAC), gave job hunters the opportunity to meet face-to-face with representatives from over 60 companies in and around Brookhaven who are looking to hire qualified candidates for a wide range of positions. The participating companies were set up at tables and booths throughout the auditorium and cafeteria.

Supervisor Lesko said, “I commend the BBAC for sponsoring the JobHaven.org Job Fair and giving so many of our residents the opportunity to network and connect with some of our Town’s top companies. In these tough economic times, local government needs to step up to boost the local economy and help companies grow their businesses. A big part of that effort is getting people back into the workforce.”

“I thank the members of BBAC for putting together the Job Fair,” said Deputy Supervisor/Councilwoman Kathleen Walsh. “Their efforts gave hundreds of our residents the opportunity to meet the representatives from companies that are looking to hire qualified candidates and I hope that many of them were able to connect and find jobs.”

Councilman Tim Mazzei, liaison to Economic Development, said, “The Job Fair was a big success and I thank the BBAC for doing their part to help our residents find good jobs in Brookhaven. This event is another example of how government and the private sector can work hand-in-hand to benefit the local economy.”

"The Town Board is committed to helping our economy grow and putting people back to work. Thank you to our Department of Economic Development for putting together a job fair which brought businesses, and people seeking jobs together in one convenient place," stated Councilwoman Connie Kepert.

"We were delighted that so many businesses participated in this year's BBAC Jobs Fair" commented Bruce Newman, President of the Brookhaven Business Advisory Council. "Sixty area businesses were in attendance along with 500 plus job seekers. The event was a huge success and very much exceeded our expectations."

The companies and institutions that participated in the JobHaven.org Job Fair included Cablevision, Brookhaven National Laboratory, National Grid/LIPA, DiCarlo Foods, Verizon Cellular, Perfumania Holdings, Amneal Pharmaceuticals, New York Life, Saint Joseph’s College and Aflac.

The Jobhaven.org Job Fair also featured free 15 minute workshops covering a variety of subjects including:

  • Personal Image Development
  • Interview Skills
  • Negotiating Compensation
  • LinkedIn 101
  • Starting a Business
  • Resume Writing
